Hello world!!!

I am a grade 9 math teacher from South Africa. I am searching for help from anyone and everyone that has ever been in a math class. What is it that made you tick? What is it that made you angry? Anything that could help. Please! I'm drowning here!!!

  1. Hi!
    Since I am a student I think that I could help a little bit. Math class should be interesting or else kids will tune-out and their grades will suffer. Class should be fast-moving (yet not so fast that some kids get lost) so students are not bored. Also you should have more challenging work available for kids who find class too easy. I often find myself bored in class but I always like math class more if harder work is offered. Students also like interactive classes: not sitting in a desk all period definitely changes a student's attitude for the class. Having fun projects and presentations will also make a class more interesting.
    Hope I helped!

  3. How do you make math fun? I am an elementary teacher in Iowa and I make math fun by challenging my students and through the use of technology. Checkout Google Sketchup (free download) to challenge your students in the area of geometry. I know a 9th grade math teacher here that has her students create a castle with this program. If you are interested in more, let me know. I believe she has a powerpoint with examples, requirements, etc. My blog address is mrnidey3b.edublogs.org;

  7. i think math is a lot easier and more fun if you let people work in groups. or even partners. or at least let them compare answers so that if they're doing it wrong they can get help from their friends as well as from you, their teacher.

  8. Hello! I've been in math classes for years. What really makes me angry is the boredom of the subject. Unlike English or Social Studies, Math constantly retains the same old boring "1+1=2" rules. I also don't like how it's uninteresing. I get bored easily in math classes. Plus, you never do anything else but sit in a desk, take notes, and work. It's terrible!

    I hope this helps.

  9. Hi im collin from Oregon US. I hate math because it is the most boring of classes but the really ironic thing is that im incredible at it. People that are in the class make me tick because they are always abnoxious and to noisy for me to learn. Hope this helped. Whats it like living in Africa?
